WOL for Education: An update

The first time I ever thought of WOL for education was when a university in Austria mentioned the idea on Twitter. They were using the Circle Guides in their classroom, and since then other schools in the US, Germany, and Switzerland have used WOL in different ways.

Over time, a range of applications and ideas have emerged.

  • WOL in University Classes such as Marketing, Knowledge Management, Online Communication.

  • WOL for Careers to help students find a job or explore career possibilities.

  • WOL for Staff to help teachers and other university employees to support and learn from each other.

  • WOL4Kids to help younger children develop relationships and learn collaboration skills.

  • WOL for Community to help universities connect and support members in their local area.

Today, in the new WOL Community, we’re bringing together this wide range of pilots and proposals into two private, moderated groups so we can share knowledge and innovate more quickly. In these “Labs”, we’ll cover topics ranging from implementation practices to licensing agreements to developing completely new WOL methods. We’ll also standardize and formalize our approach so it’s simpler and easier for schools to get started.

The groups are just forming now. If you’re interested in WOL for Education, I hope to see you there.
